About 42% of fatal car accidents happen at night, according to the European Commission for the Automobile Industry. This figure is extremely worrying bearing in mind that there is about 60% less traffic during the night. This is largely due to the reduced visual acuity and field of vision at night as a consequence of the illumination from the headlights. Dipped headlights only illuminate about 56 meters when the breaking distance at 100 km/h is about 80 meters.
The human eye can see images which reflect light from violet to red in the electromagnetic color spectrum. Beyond the visible spectrum for humans is the light known as short-wave infrared, light. The human eye is unable to see that light.
In 2000, General Motors offered a thermal night-vision system in its Cadillac line of vehicles. Toyota also gave night vision a shot, and even now the automaker continues to offer an in-dash system in some Lexus models.
Two of Germany's automotive stalwarts, BMW and Mercedes-Benz, have taken a damn-the-torpedoes approach to in-dash night-vision systems. These two auto manufacturers have been offering night-vision systems in vehicles since 2006.
Unlike night-vision optics used for military applications, BMW's system registers images based on body heat and produces images that resemble a photo negative. The warmer the target, the brighter the image displays.
IR Camera which sees through the total darkness, thick smoke, dense fog, heavy rain and snow, reveals unexpected obstacles, highlights sudden events, improves visibilities of road signs, navigates on unknown roads and overcomes blindness caused by oncoming headlights, thus dramatically lowers the risks of driving and enhances the safety of lives, properties and profits. Featured razor-sharp live imaging, extremely wide viewing range, incredible durability for any limited budget, N-Driver is absolutely the perfect choice of driving assistant vision system.
